Music in Midtown: New York music lovers can escape the din of midtown Manhattan with a new series of free lunchtime concerts presented by the CUNY Graduate Center’s doctoral program in music. The concerts feature classical and contemporary works performed by accomplished professional musicians in the Elebash Recital Hall, a warm, intimate space with state-of-the-art acoustics. This fall’s upcoming concerts are offered on November 2, November 30, and December 14, all Thursdays. The Graduate Center is located at 365 Fifth Avenue/34th Street.

Music in Midtown is directed by Norman Carey, professor of music and director of the D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) Performance Program; the assistant director of the series is D.M.A. student Lisa Kozenko.
The Graduate Center’s music program offers both a D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) and Ph.D, and it is filled with some of the city’s most talented musicians and composers. The Graduate Center is the doctorate-granting institution of The City University of New York (CUNY). An internationally recognized center for advanced studies and a national model for public doctoral education, the school offers more than thirty doctoral programs as well as a number of master’s programs. Many of its faculty members are among the world’s leading scholars in their respective fields, and its alumni hold major positions in industry and government, as well as in academia. The Graduate Center is also home to twenty-eight interdisciplinary research centers and institutes focused on areas of compelling social, civic, cultural, and scientific concerns. Located in a landmark Fifth Avenue building, The Graduate Center has become a vital part of New York City’s intellectual and cultural life with its extensive array of public lectures, exhibitions, concerts, and theatrical events.
