Victor Navasky, voice of The Nation, to Speak at CUNY Graduate Center Commencement
Honorary Degrees to Navasky, E. L. Doctorow and Roscoe C. Brown

Time and Place:  Thursday, May 25, 2 pm, Manhattan Center, 311 West 34th Street
 
Graduates:  331 Doctorates and 44 Master’s degrees to be awarded.  
 
Speaker:  Victor Navasky, publisher emeritus of The Nation, where he was editor from 1978 to 1995 and publisher and editorial director from 1995 to 2005.  In addition to his work at The Nation, Navasky is the author of Kennedy Justice; Naming Names which won the American Book Award; and A Matter of Opinion, which recently received the George Polk Book Award; and co-author of The Experts Speak: The Definitive Compendium of Authoritative Misinformation. He has also been a fellow at the Institute of Politics at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and at the Freedom Forum Media Studies Center at Columbia University, a Guggenheim Fellow, a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation, and a Visiting Professor of Journalism at Princeton. Combining his careers in both the academy and journalism, Navasky is now George Delacorte Professor of Magazine Journalism at the Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
 
Honorary degrees (Doctor of Humane Letters):  Victor Navasky (see above).  E. L. Doctorow, one of America’s most celebrated authors, with the acclaimed novel The March his most recent work (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize, winner of a National Book Critics Circle Award).  Roscoe C. Brown, influential educator and community leader, who will soon receive the Congressional Gold Medal as a former Tuskegee Airman.
